Coleman Duel Fuel Twin Mantle Lantern model 285

by sf Email

Bootsale bargain find on the weekend, this Coleman lantern which normal retails around £67 but I picked it up for a whole £1.00. It did need a new glass globe and pair of mantles but even those are fairly cheap and easy to come by. The pump didn't feel as nice and strong as it should so I doubled up the neoprene piston cup with a homebrew leather washer with the result of a much healthier compression. The rest of lamp is in fine condition and appears to have seen little use.
The Globe part number for this model 285 lantern is Coleman GLOBE NO.288C043 - 1308
I fitted the basic string coleman type #21 mantles, two of which where holed on pre burn for no apparent reason.
It had forecourt unleaded petrol in the tank when I bought it which I replaced with Apsen 4T ... the best stuff for dual fuel stoves and lanterns and third price of coleman fuel.
I let the lamp burn for about 8 hours today which it did without falter. Great little lantern. Next camp out I will compare this 285 side by side for brightness against my Coleman Northstar dual fuel.

Paracord Sling

Following the tutorial over at slinging.org I have recently made a 5-Strand Woven Paracord Sling. Quite satisfied with the result for a first try.

As for my slinging... I can at least get the ammo to fly in the right direction now.
