3 fold increase in webserver bandwidth

by sf Email

Do not often study this webservers logs but have been having a tidy out as there are usage logs dating back a few years *opps*.

Interesting to find that the bandwidth usage although steadily rising since the birth of stonefisk.com had suddenly increased 3 fold or more since June 2009. I put this down to changing the blog settings to allow 40 posts to be displayed on the home page instead of the much lesser default - so every visit would be loading the last 40 posts every time. Although the increase is not a issue (it's current trend is about 2gig per month) I have now set the blog to display only the last 5 posts on the home page and will see how this effects that bandwidth figure.

The majority of visits that originate from web searches are looking for Berlinetta kitcar, ricks steins lamb curry recipe and parcelforce handling of UPS parcels.

Lenovo 3000 N200 Cooling Fan

This lappy is a few years old now so things starting to fail. Recently replaced the keyboard with a US version as a UK version was several times more expensive.

Now the fan started to sound like a cement mixer. I checked on ebay and there is replacement available for about 20GBP so not too bad. With that in mid I decided to strip it out and see if I can do the oil trick to the bearing so see if I could get a second life from the fan. It?s easy to remove the fan, lift off the blade and place a drop of veg oil onto the bearing and reassemble. So far so good, the fan is now running silent and smooth.

Anyhow for my future reference the part number label on the fan assembly reads: ATZHY000100

The actual fan motor label reads:

FORCECON
BRUSHLESS MOTOR
