Winch Cover
Made a winch cover for the SuperWinch H14 the other day.
Should keep most of the crud off the rope and drum and help reduce UV light decay of the rope. The rope has been treated to a rock protection sleeve bought from GoodWinch. Number plate got a new home, that makes about 6 times it has been moved. The cover makes for a nice seat too.
Things and Snags
New seats! Well... new refurb kit from Exmoor Trim applied to the front seats - comfortable now!
Have been out on Salisbury Plains most weekends mooching about on my own, a group trip and a couple of navigation runs including one at night.
Whoop, found a cast base for the hi-light jack discarded on a lane - someone's loss and my gain! My jacks original base is pressed steel and not up to much.
Fitted a 9 foot tank whip antenna to the truck for DX'ing on the CB, have talked to someone at about 60miles so far.
Another offroad driving lesson learned: Don't go puddle splashing in sub zero winds! Whole truck iced over, wiper froze mid-wipe, door handles and rubber froze solid could not get in or out. Front grill blocked up with ice and winch was a scary unusable frozen block of mud (feared the synthetic rope would shatter!)
Couple of snags to sort out on truck...
Reversing at night with the standard lamp is not fun so will install a couple of small spot lamps. Will mount these lamps on the front on each side of the lamp-bar. Using swivel mounts so they can be pointed rearward and also be used as sideways facing driving lamps (flanking ground illumination is useful on the Plains!). The lamps will be wired on their own circuit and can be also switched in with the driving lamps.
Winch cover! After the ice up the other night it is about time to sort out a winch cover to keep off most of the crud and to protect the synthetic rope from UV light.
