Barnett Commando II COMPOUND Crossbow Replacement String info

by sf Email

It's quite hard to find the string for the Compound version of this crossbow from internet searches - near impossible!

Barnett Commando II Compound

Barnett Euro are no help as they do not reply to emails and their UK customer service telephone number replies with "This number does not accept incoming calls" ROFL!

Barnett International
have a different set of bow models and part number scheme.

Update: 5th May 2007 Have since learned that Barnett UK site in Wolverhampton has shut down so hence the communication blackhole - have they gone bust - relocated - reorganised - who knows.

The manual for the Barnett Commando II Compound states the string number as #210

This #210 part number is also stated in their relevant manuals as the replacement string for the Lightning Compound model and the Rhino Hunter compound crossbow (Hunter / old style/classic i.e NOT THE RHINO QUAD). So it a sure bet (hopefully) that they are talking about using the same string.

Net searches for the Barnett #210 string number throw up nothing of relevance. But searches for Lightning and Rhino strings throw up results.

The Barnett international Part number for the Rhino Classic string turns out to be #16027

UPDATE 5TH MAY 2007: Have now managed to obtain two original strings in original Barnett International Packaging. The label reads :COMPOUND STRING - RHINO, LIGHTNING, CMX II - MFG.#19313
So a different part number than first thought and I take the needlessly cryptic "CMX II" as meaning the Commando X-bow II.

This is a Teardrop design bowstring. The cross reference chart says the string is of 20 inches, 20 strand and with 1 1/4 inch loops. But those dimension do not fit the actuality of a string nearer 16 inches length only. UPDATE 5TH MAY 2007: Now that I have the correct string I can state they are 16inch in length, 32 strand with 1 1/4" loops.

The main string material is DACRON B-50 and the centre servings are made of 150-pound tensile-strength braided fast-flite.

A "Teardrop" bowstring is described as: A bowstring designed to be used on two wheeled compound bows and crossbows with two wheels and string attachment points at the end of the steel cable, with a center shooting serving.
Looking at the photo's of the Lightning compound, Rhino classic compound and the Commando II Compound they do indeed appear to share the same Teardrop method of string attachment.

The Rhino...

The Lightning...

Barnett Lightning Compound Crossbow

So when looking for a replacement string for the Barnett Commando II compound crossbow search for Lightning or Rhino (Hunter / classic / old style / teardrop) bowstrings instead or by the number #16027 UPDATE 5TH MAY 2007: The part number is #19313 (see above)

UPDATE 5TH MAY 2007: Now that I have a spare new and the old string as reference I can set about making my own strings to the same specwhich is not a bad idea seeing that Barnett do not seem to be around at the moment.
