Crossing the ford at Tarr Steps, Exmoor.

The first time we crossed we got out to witness a middle aged rambler couple (first day of their vacation it turns out) pull up in there little Rover saloon and pause in front of the river.
Thinking, yes, well not the best car to do it in but slow and steady he should make it.... but no... he floors the accelerator. When the huge splash wave clears the car has travelled about 10 foot into the river and promptly dies.
The driver for some reason decided he wasn't going to get his feet wet so planned on climbing out on the roof and jumping to dry land. Stage 1 of plan (climb out) resulted in him falling into river up to his waist.
With the lend of our recovery rope and the help of a new rangerover the car was pulled backup the ramp.
Footwells full of water, as was the clutch housing and air filter this is where we parted company with the stricken vehicle and its flapping bobby hat occupants and took the video of me crossing the river. After travelling a safe distance I was able to get out and roll around releasing the fits of laughter I have been suppressing for last 30 minutes.
