Defender Heated Wing Mirrors
With the white-whale I was given a pair of wing mirror heat pads. I wasn't going to bother fitting them as they are probably more trouble than worth, but matey challenged me to a dual of him and me fitting them to our trucks and see who does the neater install. I won and then he copied me !
I installed into the stock wing mirror with zero wiring being visible. Will have to wait till winter to see if they have any value, am wondering if I can turn them face up and fry egg on them...
They have been wired to heavy side of the rear window demister relay via a 10amp fuse.
Landrover Defender Storage Solution
I had saved up my pennies to buy a Mantec caged storage system as fitted to the G4 Challange Defenders, but when it came to place an order it turned out that the product had been discontinued.

I wrote to Mantec to ask of the likely hood that they would reintroduce the system and the reply although promising didn't satisfy my wanting it right now!
Thank you for e-mailing Mantec Services UK Ltd.
We are just in the process of re-costing the material for the side load cages and shelves, currently we have not stock of old or new, but we are aware there is great demand for this product so we are doing our best to provide a great product but at competitive prices.
I will keep your details on file and as soon as we have a costing and parts are in manufacture I will contact you with a price.
Attached is a price list of all the current products we manufacture for the Defender.
Kind regards

So I considered fabricating the cage system myself but was put off by the material price tag of approx £150 which although acceptable if following a pattern would have been a painful lump for an experiment in fabricating which could go to waste. No, this sort of thing is for scrap of for offcuts nicked from work! I have scrap, the left over top of roof rack made from 18mm box and some security mesh. Both are galvanised which just made welding difficult process.
Anyhow I made do with what I had made the side cages. I doubt I will make the removable shelves as I decided they didn't really suit my usage. The barebox has been relocated to the tub floor and its shape nicely profiles the angle of the dog guard while allowing the lid to be opened vertically. I will see how living with this storage system works out over the next year and *then* maybe consider buying in materials to remake to my prototype and have it plastic coated and so on.
